Besides the usual special, EX and super moves, players are rewarded for aggressive play by gaining resources to be able to cancel any move into a special move to create devastating combos or activate Blessed mode to have access to this cancel ability for a limited amount of time. While players can escape from the opponent’s oppressive offense by using guard canceling counters, tech recoveries and escapes, they are punished for overly defensive play causing them to fall into a Doomed state which limits their available move set and prevents them from guarding consecutive attacks. BAYANI is the first fighter developed in the Philippines drawing heavily from its culture and mythology. Set in an alternate timeline from our own, there are numerous parallels and callbacks to historical figures and events from the country’s history. The title itself is the Filipino word for heroes, however, it also carries a deeper context wherein only those who are willing to suffer and sacrifice themselves for the good of the country are worthy to be called as such. Designed for players of all levels, use special and super moves by pressing buttons rather than complex motions. Every match is fast paced with each character representing familiar fighting game archetypes such as a grappler or zoner. Story
In an alternate world on Neo Earth, Fernando Magellan invades the Philippines with his fleet in search of the Fountain of Youth. Navigating the havoc throughout Maynila, Joe Rizal returns from his adventures abroad to restore peace to his homeland, however, a dark part of his soul awaits an opportunity to strike. In another part of the country, Oria stricken with grief at the execution of her husband, Dre, and his brother, strikes a deal with the witch, Tsora, to resurrect Dre using black magic and the cadavers of the brothers. The newly awakened Dre confused at his current situation escapes into the night searching for his killer. His right hand general, Tonio, and Leon join the search for him while battling the invading forces. Tsora also sends Rio, a man stricken with polio, but aided by a mysterious creature to aid them in freeing the Philippines from Fernando.
